Jacob Hooker, PhD

Dr. Jacob Hooker is an active member of Psy’s Scientific Advisory Board and a valued contributor to all of Psy’s ongoing projects, sharing his keen expertise in chemistry, imaging biomarkers and strategic drug development.

Dr. Hooker currently serves as the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport MGH Research Scholar and Associate Neuroscientist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He is also the Director of Radiochemistry at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging and an Associate Professor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School. Additionally, Professor Hooker serves as an Associate Editor for ACS Chemical Neuroscience.

His extensive scientific achievements have been nationally recognized, including:

  • 2007 Goldhaber Distinguished Fellow at Brookhaven National Laboratory
  • 2009 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers by President Obama, who recognized Dr. Hooker’s strong scientific record and unique commitment to science mentorship
  • Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences
  • NARSAD Independent Investigator Award
  • The inaugural recipient of the Talented 12 Award by C&E News

Dr. Hooker leads The Hooker Research Group, which is working to accelerate the study of the living, human brain and nervous system through applied development of molecular imaging agents. The laboratory has developed several patented imaging technologies for neuroscience, including a first-in-class radiotracer for neuroepigenetic imaging.

Dr. Hooker received his undergraduate degrees at NC State University and completed his PhD in Chemistry at UC Berkeley.
